Businesses Invited to Learn about Upcoming Newmarket Civic Space

For over 150 years, the Newmarket mills were a bustling center for manufacturing. Now brought back to life by redevelopment, the mills will host a dynamic civic center dedicated to creative and cultural exploration. Organizers invite the public to learn how the upcoming Millspace civic center for art, culture, and heritage can help local businesses prosper. An Info Night for Community Businesses will be held Thursday, June 7th at 6:30pm at Ampers& Studio, 125 Main Street in Newmarket. The event is free and open to the public.

One-time spaceflight candidate and Millspace committee member John Herman will host the evening that will include refreshments and a tour of the space. According to Herman, there is a lot to look forward to. “In the coming years, the Millspace will host workshops, art installations, film festivals, and live theater. Local artists like me are very excited.”

Newmarket business owner Matthew Carano adds that the civic center will become a key cornerstone of local tourism. “Its health will become a core element of community and local business prosperity,” says Carano, who also serves as chairperson of the organizing team, a sub-committee of the Lamprey Arts & Culture Alliance.

Millspace Project & the CDFA Tax Credit Program: Businesses invited to significantly increase their community impact


The Newmarket Millspace Project has a unique opportunity to help a company significantly increase their community impact by leveraging the tax dollars they’d pay to state and federal government anyway. For a limited time, businesses are invited to invest their tax dollars to the Newmarket Millspace project in exchange for a 75% state tax credit through the NHCDFA Tax Credit Program. The 75% tax credit can be applied against any or all three of the business profits, business enterprise, or insurance premium taxes. A contributing business that makes a $100,000 cash investment will receive a state tax credit in the amount of $75,000. After federal tax benefits are accounted for, the contribution actually costs the company approximately 15% of the $100,000, or $15,000. So, a contributing business that makes a $10,000 cash investment will receive a tax credit in the amount of $7,500. After federal tax benefits are accounted for, the contribution actually costs the company about 15% of the $10,000, or $1,500. Again this helps the large and small business donors to have a big impact in a community by leveraging the tax dollars they would pay to the state and federal government anyway. This tax credit award was applied for in a very competitive environment. The NH Tax Credit Program is unique. It is not an entitlement. Contributions cost as little as $0.15 per $1.00 contributed after taking into account: Tax Credit, NH Business Profit Tax Savings, and Federal Income Tax Savings.

Holiday Benefit Show Big Success, $1500 raised for Millspace Project

A full house experienced the magic of old time radio as Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” was staged at The Stone Church Music Club to benefit the Millspace Project. Longtime radio and television personality Mike Pomp lead a lively cast in the role of Ebenezer Scrooge. $1500 was raised to benefit the Newmarket Millspace, an upcoming center for arts, culture and heritage in the renovated Newmarket Mills.

On Wednesday, October 13th at 2:15 pm, the NCDC signed the sales agreement for the Newmarket Mills to Eric Chinburg of Newmarket Mills LLC. Our board president, Mike Provost, was fortunate to be there and witness the sales agreements including a lease for our upcoming civic space for 99 years at $1 per year (with an option to renew for another 99 years at $1 per year). Provost immediately paid the first year, which was promptly returned as a donation.
